Roulette can be an extremely fun game to play, but it’s not without risks. Luckily, when you are hosting an Atlanta casino party with us, you are playing with fake money. The following rules and strategies are popular with the gambling crowd and can be used during any normal play at your favorite casino. Please note that none of these strategies are guaranteed to make you a millionaire and the house always wins, eventually. That being said, if you are getting a second mortgage on your house to compensate for your losses in a casino, it may be time to call it a night.

How To Play Roulette

  1. Place your minimum bet on any dedicated square on the roulette table.
    • You can bet on a single number, multiple numbers, or outside the numbers
  2. Dealer will start the roulette wheel and throw the ball.
  3. Dealer will call “no more bets” or wave their hand across the table to let the players know that bets are closed.
  4. When the ball rests on a number, the dealer will place the “Marker” on the winning number.
  5. Dealer will remove the losing bets and pay the winning bets.
  6. Once winners are paid, the dealer will remove the “Marker” and play resumes.

Roulette Definitions

  • Marker: The placeholder that the dealer uses to identify the winning number. Usually made of plastic or glass. Make sure that you don’t touch your chips until the dealer removes the marker from the table.
  • Pockets: The indented portions of the roulette wheel where the ball will land when it stops spinning. Each of the pockets have a dedicated number and color that corresponds with the numbers on the roulette table.
  • Croupier: Another word for a roulette dealer, but most casinos simply refer to them as a dealer.
  • Double Zero: The green “00” at the top of the roulette table. European roulette does not have a double zero.
  • Zero:  The green “0” at the top of the roulette table.
  • Wheel checks: Chips designed for roulette. They are usually a single color and unmarked. Each player will have a designated color for their chips so there is less confusion when multiple bets are placed around the table.
  • Outside: Any bet placed on the outside of the numbers on a roulette table. Odd/Even, Black/Red, Low/high, Columns, and Dozens.
  • Inside: Any bet placed within the numbers on a roulette table. 1-36, 0, or 00.

Important Tips to Remember when Playing Roulette

  1. In any casino, it is important that you don’t touch any of the bets while the “Marker” is on a winning number. The marker is an important tool that tells the players what the winning number is, but also informs the players that betting is off until the marker is removed by the dealer.
  2. American roulette can be identified by the added “Double Zero” on the table. European roulette only has the single zero. This addition for American roulette increases the house edge from 2.70% (European) to 5.26% (American).
  3. Most roulette tables at your local casinos will have a digital board displaying the previous numbers that have been picked. We have seen all different types of players fall victim to looking for “patterns” in the results. Looking for patterns can be dangerous to your winnings. Consider this, no matter how many times one number appears in the past, the same percentages still apply regardless of these results. You always have a 37 to 1 chance of any number hitting.

Roulette Strategies

Did you know that on average roulette has the worst odds than any other game on the casino floor? Its true, the top 2 worst bets you can make on a roulette table are betting single numbers and basket bets. Single numbers have a 2.63% chance of hitting while basket bets (American roulette only, 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3.) have a 17% chance of hitting. We put together some popular Roulette strategies to help the odds lean in your favor.

  • The Martingale System:
    • Double your bet amount after every loss until you win and then start over with your original bet. The Martingale is one of the most popular betting strategies in roulette, but it has a downside of losing quite a large sum of money. You might be playing the martingale strategy yourself without even realizing it because it seems like a logical plan. “If I keep doubling my bet after a loss, eventually ill win it all back.”
    • Here is the bet series:
      • $10 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $20 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $40 bet
      • Win bet
      • Player resets to $10 bets after winning the $40.
      • The player was able to bet a total amount of $70 in this series and won $80. Don’t spend it all in one place, I hear the lobster buffets are super nice!
  • D’Alembert System:
    • Similar to the Martingale System, but you increase or decrease your bet by one unit. Every time you win, you will decrease your bet amount by 1 and every time you lose, you will increase your bet amount by 1 unit. For example, if you are betting $10 at a $5 min table, and you lose, then your next bet should be $15. If you bet 10 dollars and win, then you decrease your next wager by $5.

      • Win bet
      • $5 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $10 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $15 bet
      • Win bet
      • $10 bet
      • Lose bet
      • The player bet a total amount of $50 in this series and won $35. You can see the similarities with the Martingale except the player has decreased the units applied and removed after the bet results.
  • Fibonacci System:
    • A betting system where the player starts with a minimum bet and then adds the last two bets together for the following bet. For example, a player starts with a $5 bet. Their next bet will be $5 (0+5), which would follow with $10-$15-$25-$40-$65-$105 and so on. This betting system can be profitable even when the player loses more often than they win.
    • Here is the bet series:
      • $5 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $5 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $10 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $15 bet
      • Lose bet
      • $25 bet
      • Win bet
      • $10 bet
      • Win bet
      • The player bet a total amount of $70 in this series and won $35. Considering the player lost more than they won, the losses aren’t bad enough to pawn their wedding ring.
  • The Labouchere Strategy:
    • The Labouchere is another cancellation strategy created to minimize losses and increase wins. The problem with it is the fact that it actually does both of these things, quite evenly. This strategy is mainly for the players who believe in “lucky streaks” or “getting hot.” The idea behind the Labouchere is to structure your bets that when you lose, you add that loss to “hedge” your next bet. If you win a bet, you subtract that amount from the sequence start and end point. The problem with using this strategy is you could do some serious damage to your bank roll if you lose more than 5 times in a row. Some professionals claim that the odds of losing 5 times in a row is lower than a standard bet.

    • $20 bet

    • $30 bet
    • Lose bet
    • $40 bet
    • Win bet
    • $20 bet
    • Lose bet
    • $30 bet
    • In this series, the player used a simple unit structure of 1,2,3,4. Every time they won, they would remove the beginning number of the sequence as well as their last bet (in this case $40) from the original sequence and start over ($20). The player bet a total amount of $150 and won $40.
  • The Paroli system or “Parley” system:
    • The Paroli strategy takes a much stronger willed person (or a crazy one). The player will increase their bets in the series regardless of the outcome of that bet. According to experts, the Paroli strategy is meant to capitalize on a hot streak. An easy way to remember this strategy is to simply double your bet two times in a row and then start back from the beginning.

    • $20 bet

    • $40 bet
    • Win bet
    • $10 bet
    • Lose bet
    • In this series, the player bet a total amount of $80 and won $60. Notice that the bet sequence is always the same whether the player wins or loses.
